UPTAC stands for Uttar Pradesh Technical Admission Counselling. It is the official centralised admission process conducted by Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Technical University (AKTU), Lucknow for admissions to engineering and other professional degree programmes at 756+ affiliated colleges across Uttar Pradesh. For 2026-27, it is conducted at https://uptac.samarth.edu.in.
UPTAC covers first year and lateral entry second year admissions to B.Tech, M.Tech (Integrated), B.Arch, B.Des, B.Pharm, Pharm D, BCA, BBA, BMS, B.Voc, BHMCT, BFAD, BFA, MBA, MBA (Integrated), MCA, and MCA (Integrated). The process is overseen by the Central Admission Board (CAB) under the chairmanship of the AKTU Vice Chancellor.
The whole process is completely online, from registration and document upload, to choice filling, seat allotment, freeze/float choice and physical reporting. No document is supposed to be submitted offline to AKTU at any level. The whole process has been bifurcated into the following stages:
- Registration: Registration is available for one-time window; fee of 1,000 and document upload and APAAR ID verification will be required.
- Document Verification: uploaded documents are verified online by the officials. A query response facility is available in case of any discrepancy.
- Choice Filling: after the registration, eligible students need to fill and lock their preferred choice of college-branch combinations in order of their priority.
- Seat Allotment: The counseling results will be based solely on merit, JEE Main rank (for B.Tech), choice filling, and vacancy.
- Freeze/Float: After allotment of seats, you will have to choose to Freeze or Float your seat.
- Physical Reporting: After successful allotment, candidate will have to physically report at the allocated institution with original documents within a specified deadline.
This year 2026, there are two major changes in the UPTAC admission process as compared to the previous years; the new portal https://uptac.samarth.edu.in and mandatory APAAR ID verification at the time of registration through DigiLocker.
JEE Main data can now be automatically fetched by entering your application number, and you also get to see all the branches eligible for you right after you fill in your academic details with an auto generated eligibility matrix.
For government colleges, 100% of seats are filled through UPTAC. For private colleges, 85% of seats are filled through UPTAC and the remaining 15% through Management/NRI quota at institute level.
