How to float in UPTAC Counselling?

If you choose the option of floating in UPTAC Counselling 2026 then you will retain the seat already allotted to you, but you will still be eligible for a higher preference choice during the next round. Below is precisely the step by step procedure to opt for this on the current UPTAC portal at https://uptac.samarth.edu.in.

After your seat is allotted in Round 1 (27 June 2026), log in to the UPTAC portal with your application form number and password and proceed to the allotment response section. You will have three options: Freeze, Float and Withdraw. Click on Float, this ensures that you are accepting your current seat, while also being considered for a higher preference seat in round 2.

Pay the seat confirmation fee (Rs.20,000 or Rs.12,000 as applicable) within the Round 1 deadline of 27–29 June 2026. Paying the seat confirmation fee is mandatory even when selecting Float, failure to pay means your allotment is not confirmed.

In Round 2, the system automatically evaluates your locked preference list. If a seat that ranks higher in your preference list becomes available for your JEE Main rank and category, it is allotted to you. Your Round 1 seat is automatically vacated and returned to the pool. If no better option is available, your Round 1 seat is retained as-is.

After Round 2 allotment (3 July 2026), you again choose Freeze or Float within 3–5 July 2026. If still not at your top preference, Float again for Round 3. Round 3 (9–10 July 2026) is the last Freeze/Float window and after that Round 4 auto-freezes all candidates on 11 July 2026.

The key point: floating never puts your current seat at risk. You cannot be downgraded. The only outcome of floating is either an upgrade or no change. It is always worth floating unless you have received your absolute first preference.
